‘The Principle of Dust’ (Loosely Translated

This Poetry book was a present through the mail. I often get lost in breyten breytenbach’s poetry. He is different, his Afrikaans poetry is more… continental, more than just poetry for the Afrikaans-speaking people in South Africa. There are a lot of breytenbach fans all across the world.

loosely translated:

“If the stars are worms

(as the successful poet said)

then is the moon

as she grows tonight

a glimmering skull

drifting onwards

through dry black water

of the earth as a rotting remembrance”

His poetry makes me smile sometimes 🙂 and makes me think…
