Poet’s Note

I have written down a lot of stuff on paper that I just threw in a box. The following, a sketch and a poem I wrote back in 2004 (When I was about 32 years old). It was a hard time in my life. I suffered heavily from depression and did not know it, I was still undiagnosed at that stage in my life. The photo was taken in 2004 at Zeplins Bosman Street. Well, here it is: Diverse & Humanity.

Diverse

Diversity is imminent. We are all diverse in creed, race, colour and beliefs. Why then is it so hard for us to accept the fact that people are different? Some Christians and Muslims scorn other people because they worship different gods, some people are racist and despise people of a different skin colour. Some straight men despise homosexual men. Hate and negative attitudes like that leads to violence. Violence is the language of idiots.

Humanity

Humanity –
I am tired of your judgmental philosophies.
I am tired of being too white,
Too black,
Too gay,
Too straight,
Too rich,
Too poor…
I am tired of you, judging individuality,
Your mediocre evaluation of quality.

I am tired of your fascination
With Jesus and ufos,
Rugby, soccer, sex, drugs
And rock and roll,
I am tired of A.I.D.S. and the rising death toll.

I am tired of your one-hit wonders,
And pop idols
And Oprah
And your abuse of music,
I am tired of you trampling
On some poor shit,
To get ahead, to the top…
I am tired of humanity,
Insanity, sobriety, me being human.

I look in the mirror…
I am just as fucked up
As the rest of you.
